Dixie Plantation

Baby's first trip to a plantation. No joke. The College of Charleston owns a plantation. And it's called "Dixie Plantation". (We do not make up any of this. Promise.) Really, it's just a nice area outside town with cool trees and marshland, a lovely place to go for a Sunday morning walk which is what we did yesterday. (It's fun that the weather is turning chilly - Garin gets to wear all his bundle-up clothes.)

Garin loves his sling - it has allowed us to take him to numerous places like restaurants, bars, and coffee shops giving him his own space, and letting mom have both hands free (he usually just sleeps anyway, as you can see here). (Mel is excited to note that those are not maternity jeans-first time back in "real" jeans.)

Cribs (the baby kind, not the MTV kind)

Although Garin sleeps with us at night, he now has his own crib (thanks Noni!) so that when mom needs a 10 minute break, he has a safe place to hang out. So far he hasn't quite gotten the hang of sleeping there, but at least he likes to do his little baby dance moves in there.

We got him this mobile to entertain him but we're a bit worried that he will end up with flashbacks and think he was doing psychedelic drugs during his infancy.

And we've clearly identified the cow and the donkey, but this third animal is a little sketchy (sheep?).

Noni Reba's Visit

A grandma to the rescue again! Jess' mom came down for a week to help entertain Garin so that Mel could get back to work (for a couple hours a day). She also got stuck helping Jess go out and buy (and move & install) a new washing machine after ours broke (not good when you use cloth diapers!). Thanks so much for everything, next visit we promise there will be more opportunities for fun!

At least there was a little time for everyone's favorite activity - napping with baby:

Mommies love napping with baby too . . .

OK, OK - new photos!

Sorry, for the lack of posts, last week was busy - trying to settle into our new routine of life + baby. But we did manage to get some pictures . . .

First - Garin waves hello (he's a yawny baby). And he somehow managed to interlace his fingers the other night - probably a fluke, he doesn't have that much dexterity yet, but it's still extremely cute.

Garin has been learning the alphabet (in English and Greek) along with some Latin - Jess sings to him when he's fussy. He now practices both the "hummm, let me think about that" and "I know! I know!" poses . . .

And this will surprise anyone who knows our wild cat Anya - she is smitten with the baby! She spends a lot of time near him (hangs out for his diaper changes as you see here), doesn't run away when he cries (like the other cats do), lets him flail and hit her, etc. It's amazing.
