Grammy Bonnie's Visit

Never underestimate how helpful grandparents are! We couldn't have made it though the first week without the help of Carmel's mom (an extra set of hands - and someone with previous childraising experience - made all the difference).

Thanks Grammy - here are some pictures so you can remember your visit . . .

Future Plans

"Here he's dreaming of his future career as an NCAA all-star for UT" says Jess. ("If he wants to be" adds Carmel every time the basketball playing topic comes up.)

"Here he's pondering his future as a model," says Carmel. ("No son of mine is going to be a model!" says Jess every time any of that sissy stuff comes up.)

"Arrr, you're both wrong, I'm going to be a pirate!"
says Garin every time the subject of future plans comes up.

First Few Days

(despite the post title, these pictures (besides the belly one) are all from Monday, Garin's second day - we realized since he's wearing the same outfit in all of them - we do change his clothes, don't worry!)

Hard to believe that fewer than 36 hours before this photo was taken that baby somehow fit in that abdomen! (Just for comparison, here's the last photo of the big belly - taken during labor.)

Obligatory "our baby is SO cute" photos . . .

And evidently when you're a really hungry baby, Jess' biceps is as good a snack as any (she has the baby hickies to prove it).

Birth Day

Garin was born at our new house in Charleston. He was born in a big birth tub, with the assistance of our awesome midwife and doula team. Home birth is great, it meant we didn't have to change locations in the middle of labor, or have additional chaos going on around us like in a hospital.

They say everything's bigger in Texas (or from Texas in this case), this kiddo was a whopper at 9 lbs, 8 ozs and 22 inches. (A full 3 lbs more than Carmel weighed at birth.) He has an amazing wing-span which we have yet to capture on film. And the longest newborn feet ever.
